Prior to 1957, pushing the team with possession of the football into their own end zone resulted in a score called a jaune. It was credited to the team driven back as -2 points. The adoption of electric scoreboards that year meant that the negative sign was no longer available for the use of scorekeepers.

The score has now been replaced by the safety.
